Gent forward Jonathan David would seemingly cost Everton and Arsenal at least £21 million to sign, amid reports of interest from the two Premier League sides.

The Belgian club’s technical director Michel Louwagie has insisted the in-form youngster isn’t for sale, but if he were to leave it would have to be a club-record sale.

Currently, that is €25 million/£21 million they received from AS Monaco and Aston Villa for Youri Tielemans, and Wesley respectively.

Speaking to Belgian paper HLN, Louwagie said: “Our goal is to keep this team together, even after the summer.

“We didn’t extend David’s contract until 2023 for nothing. We have a lot of talent.

“It’s great that we have a top scorer like David, but we want to keep him. Of course, we won’t let such a player go for 25 million.”

Canada international David has been making waves this term, scoring 22 goals and making 10 assists already across all competitions.

The 20-year-old’s stunning form has alerted a number of sides across Europe according to Jeuneux Footeaux, including Lyon, RB Leipzig, Lazio and Napoli.

It is fair that Gent should expect to receive a greater fee than £21 million for David.

Clearly they don’t want to lose their precocious talent, who obviously has a very bright future in the game.

Despite having only just come onto the scene David,  who can play in variety of attacking positions, has demonstrated excellent finishing attributes and has the creativity to boot.

Everton and Arsenal should definitely consider testing Gent’s resolve this summer – the exciting youngster would a great pickup for either side, and at a reasonable price in today’s market.
