There could be hope for Valencia at Goodison Park yet
For the first hour of the encounter at Goodison Park it was a match of very few clear chances, and it was lacking in any real quality as it seemed that neither side wanted to lose the game.
This was the case until Koeman dipped into his substitutes bench and called out Enner Valencia, a man who had failed to score in any of his previous ten Premier League appearances this season.
Quite surprising, then, that the Ecuadorian completely turned the match on its head, adding a new attacking dimension to Everton’s play with his full-on pace and ability to support Lukaku in a forward position; an area that Koeman’s side have often struggled with this season.
Over the course of half an hour Valencia turned the match into a comfortable afternoon for the hosts, opening the scoring himself on 73 minutes before being involved in the build-up for the penalty, which Leighton Baines converted to put the game past Southampton.
