Everton 2-1 Arsenal: Three things we learnt

Arsenal are reliant on Alexis Sanchez in attack

The Chilean has been the best player in the Premier League this season and he was excellent once again at Goodison Park. His movement caused all sorts of problems, but none of the other attackers performed and it was a near impossible task for Sanchez to win the match on his own. Mesut Ozil’s passing was beneath his very high standards and he wasted a good chance to give Arsenal the lead in the second half. The German didn’t play well and it could be that the rumours about his future are having an effect on his football.

Arsene Wenger needs to find the right combination of attackers to take the pressure off of Sanchez. They looked better when Alex Iwobi and Olivier Giroud were on the pitch and the Arsenal boss may have to make changes at the weekend. Although Sanchez has dragged the side into a strong position, they can’t rely on him if they are to challenge for the title. They need their other attackers contributing a lot more and they need it soon. The Gunners face a trip to Manchester City at the weekend and they need to get a positive result or risk losing significant ground on Chelsea.
