The Everton full-backs were back to their best

The Toffees are at their best when they have Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines playing at their full potential. That was certainly the case on Tuesday and they both played key roles in Everton picking up the three points. Coleman was excellent and offered a great outlet down the right wing for the home side. He is one of the few full backs that has a goal-scorer’s instinct and that is invaluable to Everton as he provides some crucial goals. His movement for his goal on Tuesday was excellent and it gave Everton the momentum to win the game.

Although Coleman scored, it was Leighton Baines that was the true star of the evening. His driving runs caused Arsenal endless problems and he has a delivery to match. Baines provided the cross for the opening goal and then made a match-winning goal-line clearance in the dying minutes of the match. He was quality at both ends of the pitch and looked more like the Leighton Baines of old. The two full backs provide an extra dimension to Everton’s game and that showed tonight.
