And here are three who disappointed:
Dele Alli
It is his second season in the Premier League and he will be known now, which means sides will have a plan to stop him. He has decided to wear ‘Dele’ on the back of his shirt and that was the only thing of note about Alli’s showing on Saturday.
He was anonymous in his play and rarely got on the ball in dangerous position. His passing was slack and he didn’t look match fit for the new season. He didn’t have a full pre-season due to his participation in the European Championships. The tenacity of Everton’s midfield made it difficult for Alli and he never influenced the game like we know he can.
Harry Kane
He, like Dele Alli, looked to be suffering from a Euro 2016 hangover and didn’t perform the level we have come to expect from him. Last season, Kane started the season slowly and it could be a similar story this campaign. The striker needs to be managed better this season and be given rests regularly throughout the season.
That will be possible after the signing of Vincent Janssen, who was more threatening than Kane during his second half run-out. There are no doubts that Kane will score goals this season, but he needs time to get over his disappointing summer and improve his match fitness.
Kevin Mirallas
Everton delivered a good team performance and it is unfair to pick out a disappointing performer, but Kevin Mirallas doesn’t look a great fit for Koeman’s system. Although the Belgian didn’t perform poorly, he didn’t do enough to convince Koeman that he deserves a regular first-team spot.
Everton are set to bring in Yannick Bolasie this week, which means one of the attacking players will drop out of the side and that is likely to be Mirallas. On Saturday, he looked okay and was willing to press the full backs, but the role that Koeman wants his wide players to play doesn’t suit Mirallas.
He is a flair player and tracking back with high intensity will take away from his attacking quality. Mirallas suffered during the Martinez era and it will take time to rebuild his confidence. The Bolasie signing is likely to make him a rotational player once more and that is his level right now.
