Real Madrid have reignited their interest in Sadio Mane. And according to The Express, Real Madrid plan to offer Marco Asensio to Liverpool to help get this deal over the line.
The Spanish giants have been long-term admirers of Mane and want to finalise this move. Having already signed Eden Hazard, Real Madrid will return with another raid on the Premier League.
Mane was one of the best performers in the top-flight last season. With 26 goals to his name, the Senegal international was a constant threat from the wing. And his 22 Premier League goals earned him the joint golden boot award.
This has prompted Real Madrid to step up their attempts to sign Mane. And they are willing to part ways with Asensio, who is rated at £85m.
The 23-year-old scored six goals and provided seven assists last season. This took his tally to 27 goals and 17 assists for Real Madrid. But Zinedine Zidane could let him leave permanently.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be a big fan of the Spain international so perhaps this deal might tempt him. But he would have to let Mane go, which puts Liverpool in a dilemma.
Winners and losers of this swap deal
Asensio would be a like-for-like Mane replacement, operating on the left wing predominantly. But Mane is outperforming Asensio at the moment – domestically, continentally and even internationally.
Klopp is a fan of Asensio and he would be an exciting addition. But in the short-term, Mane is scoring more goals and his constant running and blistering pace make him an integral part of Klopp’s plans.
Mane is only four years older than Asensio too and is now entering his prime. Perhaps Liverpool should keep hold of him, rather than risk a swap with Asensio.
