European club’s manager says he would really like to sign Leeds midfielder

Legia Warsaw manager Czesław Michniewicz has told Polish outlet SPORT that he would really like to sign Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz this summer – but fears that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa might throw a spanner in the works.

Bogusz, 19, has emerged as one of the most-talented teenage stars at Elland Road in recent seasons. Having already broken into the senior set-up at Elland Road, he was loaned to the second tier of Spanish football with Logrones where he has done well.

The 10-time Poland Under-21 ace has already clocked up 19 appearances in all competitions for Logrones. He is due back at Leeds this summer where he has two years remaining on his current deal – but Legia are interested, according to Meczyki.

Now, Legia’s manager Michniewicz has stated he would love Legia to bring him back to his home country – but he does not rate his side’s chances of signing the teenage playmaker based on that he reckons Bielsa did not want Bogusz to move to Spain.

“I like players of this type like Mateusz. He has a great technique, a sense for a combination game,” Michniewicz said. “He has had a tremendous amount of work with coach Marcelo Bielsa. I must admit that I would like him to be in Legia.

“It may not be a realistic transfer, because Bielsa did not want to agree to loan Mateusz to Spain. As of today, I would give a few percent chance of succeeding [to sign Bogusz], even though I would very much like him to come to Legia.”

TBR’s view – Legia move would be huge for Bogusz

It would mean the chance of European football. Legia Warsaw currently sit top of Poland’s top tier and are clear by nine points. They will have the chance to qualify for the Champions League this summer, and Bogusz could be a part of that.

Realistically, does he have a future at Leeds? Bielsa and Victor Orta would have liked to have seen him kick on at Logrones and while it is a much better standard than League One and League Two, Bogusz has struggled to make an impression.

A move to his home country, to play for the club’s current best side, would be a move he cannot refuse.
