After completing a perfect record in the group stages of Euro 2020, Belgium are searching for a passage through to the quarter-finals against Portugal.
Roberto Martinez’s men won all three group games, conceding just one goal in the process.
However, reigning champions, Portugal await in their round-of-16 tie this Sunday.
Fernando Santos’ men come into the clash after a great performance against world champions France. The Portuguese can count themselves unlucky to have lost the encounter after a questionable first penalty for Les Blues.
Predicted XI vs Portugal for Euro 2020 last-16 tie
But amidst all the excitement, who will start this weekend?
Well, Thibaut Courtois has been the first-choice option for the first three games, and that is unlikely to change.
Portugal’s attack has been monstrous this tournament, scoring two or more in each of their three games. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in every game so far.
They’ll feature alongside former Manchester City man Jason Denayer, who has started each of the last two games, in a back three.
Timothy Castagne started off as the starting right wing-back, but, picked up a tournament-ending injury. He was replaced with second-choice Thomas Meunier, who should start on Sunday to deal with the threat of Diogo Jota.
At left wing-back, there’s been far less drama with Thorgan Hazard the clear first-choice. He was rested against the Finnish and should return to take on City’s Bernardo Silva.
Dries Mertens and Yannick Carrasco started the first two games, but, are yet to make a telling impact on proceedings. They should be replaced by Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne, who have returned to full fitness.
The two Belgian wizards turned on the style against Denmark, salvaging a win from the jaws of defeat. Pep Guardiola’s star man picked up and assist and scored, whilst the Real Madrid winger assisted the winner.
Meanwhile, there’s no competition up front with Romelu Lukaku the leading man.
The Inter ace has scored eight goals in his last eight games for his country.
