Euro 2020: Lineker reacts to Alexander-Arnold injury
Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment amid reports from The Telegraph that Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Euro 2020 through injury.
After much speculation, Alexander-Arnold was named in Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for this summer.
Unfortunately, the 22-year-old is now set to miss out on the competition. He limped off during the latter stages of England’s friendly with Austria at the Riverside Stadium this week.
It looked ominous with the tournament looming. In truth, Alexander-Arnold looked resigned to his fate immediately.
And sadly, the news everyone feared has come to fruition. The Telegraph reports that the Reds man will have to withdraw from the squad.
According to the report, Southgate is now likely to choose between Jesse Lingard and James Ward-Prowse as his replacement.
Lineker has shared his reaction to the news on social media…

Euro 2020 looked set to present Alexander-Arnold with perfect opportunity to silence doubters before injury blow
It is a truly a shame. Alexander-Arnold has had to deal with a lot of unfair criticism this season.
Liverpool have dealt with many setbacks this season. And with that, players such as Alexander-Arnold have struggled.
And yet, he responded incredibly in the final weeks of the season. His form made Southgate’s decision to leave him out of the previous squad seem remarkable.
Even on an off-day, Alexander-Arnold has the potential to be a game-changer.
As Lineker notes, few are better are going forward, but the quality of his defending also goes under the radar.
England do have the options to get by without Alexander-Arnold. Reece James was outstanding in the Champions League final.
Meanwhile, Southgate trusts Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier.
But it is desperately sad for Alexander-Arnold. Euro 2020 looked set to be perfect stage for the youngster to silence his doubters.
However, that opportunity has reportedly been taken from him.
