Right-Wing Forward:
Nani (Portugal)

The new Valencia man had Portugal’s best chance of the first half when he fired over early on, but his finest contributions came after Ronaldo was stretchered off. Nani seized the initiative for Portugal going forward, holding the ball up superbly and always eager to break forward on the counter.

He had run himself into the ground by the end of extra-time, which was a testament to his hard work and effort on the night, and his winners’ medal will be just desserts for the graft he put in.

Centre-Forward: Éder (Portugal)

The Lille man was thrown on with 12 minutes of normal time remaining, as
Portugal; having held their own, looked to win the game. The tall centre-forward was strong on the ball and instantly made himself a presence up front with his power, hustling and bustling with the French defence and operating as a battering ram.

Éder’s big moment came in the second half of extra-time, and he took it with some style, riding a Laurent Koscielny challenge and out-muscling the Arsenal defender to gain himself some space, before regaining his balance and crashing an unstoppable shot from outside the area across Hugo Lloris and into the bottom corner.

With that strike, he sent Portugal’s travelling contingent into raptures, and wrote himself into the history books with his moment of brilliance. This truly was a crucial goal coated in glory and a moment in Portuguese football history that will be remembered for all time.

Left-Wing Forward: Kingsley Coman (France)

The youngster proved to be a real game-changer for France after coming off the bench and was a real live-wire from the off in attack, always looking to get down the flanks and wreak havoc. He had a far more effective game than Dimitri Payet who looked quiet and isolated on the left side.

Coman’s pace was a nuisance for the Portuguese and it sometimes took cynical fouls just to stop him breaking away, one of which earned William Carvalho a booking.
