Eunan O’Kane leg break surely ends any hope of Leeds United future

It has not been an excellent 18 months for Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane. His form dropped dramatically last season, with Leeds fans calling him out on numerous occasions for his poor displays. He went from a Leeds captain to a Leeds reserve player in the blink of an eye.

Marcelo Bielsa clearly did not fancy him and told him he could move on this summer.

Eventually, the Republic of Ireland international did just that. He decided to join Luton Town on loan until the end of the season. His hope would have been to impress with the League One team and show his worth to Leeds. If not that, then at least enough to earn a Championship switch.

However, his loan spell has taken an unfortunate turn.

O’Kane suffered a double leg break against Bristol Rovers at the weekend. The 28-year-old underwent surgery on the affected leg yesterday. Such an injury could easily end his season. Although no official timescale has been announced, it appears likely that O’Kane’s campaign will not get started again for some time.

It also appears likely that Leeds fans will not see him in a Whites shirt again.

Whilst at Luton there was always the slim chance he could impress enough for a second chance at Leeds. Any hope of redemption is now surely gone with a season mostly spent on the sidelines ahead of him.

Hopefully, O’Kane recovers as soon as possible from his horrific injury. But as for playing for Leeds again? It does not appear likely.
