ESPN pundit thinks manager will already want to replace player signed from Arsenal in the summer

Craig Burley believes Matt Turner may now be worried about the January transfer window just months after the goalkeeper left Arsenal for Nottingham Forest.

Matt Turner will have breathed a huge sigh of relief on Saturday night when Morgan Gibbs-White found the back of the net to put Forest back in front against Manchester United.

It was Turner’s mistake which allowed the visitors to equalise. He had already been slightly fortunate to get away with slicing an attempted clearance which never actually left his penalty area in the second-half.

And it was shortly after that that the goalkeeper’s poor pass was cut out by Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho then set up Marcus Rashford for the equaliser.

Turner did make an important save just before Gibbs-White scored the winner. But the USMNT international’s position is back under the microscope – less than five months after his move from Arsenal.

Speaking on ESPN, Craig Burley believes that Nuno Espírito Santo will probably now be looking to bring another goalkeeper in.

“I think January’s going to be a big worry for him in terms of the new manager possibly asking for a more experienced goalkeeper for the Premier League,” he said.

“Yeah he saved that one at the end that they went on to score from. But he struggles with the ball at his feet, he looks a little bit nervous. I don’t think he imposes himself on the penalty area. He’s not a bad goalkeeper. But I think that could be one of the positions that the manager goes out and [looks to strengthen].”

Mikel Arteta appears to have got one goalkeeper decision correct

Mikel Arteta’s decision to sign David Raya in the summer has hardly proved to be a success. Raya has not looked overly convincing as Arsenal’s number one.

But Turner’s form for Forest does vindicate his decision to let the 29-year-old leave, at least. Only four goalkeepers across the entire Premier League are performing worse against their expected goals conceded, according to FBRef.

He has already been dropped once this season. And there are probably going to be plenty of Nottingham Forest fans who want another change while the January transfer window is open.
