Leeds United’s links to Erling Braut Haaland have been thrust into the spotlight this season after the Norwegian’s sensational season. The 19-year-old has scored 40 goals in 33 games for Red Bull Salzburg and, since his £17 million January move, Borussia Dortmund.

Born in Leeds, the son of former Whites player Alf-Inge Haaland, has previously spoken of his love of the West Yorkshire club.

Indeed, much has been written about one particular Leeds United ‘dream’.

Speaking in a 2017 interview with Aftenposten, Haaland admitted a career goal to win the Premier League with Leeds.

“I want to be the best. The dream is to win the Premier League with Leeds.”

It’s probably a comment the then 16-year-old wishes he never made, as it has been thrown at him on numerous occasions since with Leeds United fans desperate to see this striking prodigy at Elland Road.

But times have changed and Haaland admits he now has a different dream. Speaking to FourFourTwo this week, the Norwegian made it clear he now wants to win the Champions League with Dortmund but admits he remains a fan of both Leeds and Manchester City, another of his father’s former teams.

“That (winning CL with Dortmund) would be a very nice dream. My father played for different Premier League teams, so of course you become a fan. You support them because you support your dad.”

Leeds United fans have long fantasised about Haaland maybe heading back to his city of birth and leading the Whites on their next great run of honour.

However, for the time being, it seems he has bigger fish to fry.

But who knows? If Leeds can find themselves reclaiming their former glory in the years to come, perhaps a move for Haaland might be back on the horizon some way down the line.
