Eriksen, not Hazard, should be Real Madrid target on Saturday’s evidence

Real Madrid have struggled so far this season and their response to that is usually to spend – and spend big.

Eden Hazard’s flirtation with the Bernabeu is no secret and while his professionalism has prevented him from copying his international team-mate Thibaut Courtois and forcing a move away from Stamford Bridge, his head has surely been turned.

Saturday’s trip to Wembley was another opportunity for the Belgian playmaker to shine on the big stage but he was upstaged by Christian Eriksen.

Reports last week claimed that the playmaker is not happy with his current role in the Spurs squad and suggested that Real Madrid were prepared to battle Paris Saint Germain to take advantage if there is any chance that he has become unsettled in north London.

The majestic performance he put in during the 3-1 win on Saturday night would suggest that if there is any unrest, it didn’t distract him.

But he was the one who looked most like the quality of player Madrid need to be having a look at to claw their way out of their current slump.

If the uncertainty around the stadium descends into any more of a farce then that could be very worrying news indeed for Spurs.
