Eriksen and Trippier try to dispel theory fatigue has impacted Tottenham’s season

Tottenham have not made a signing for two transfer windows and the impact of that has been felt by their thin squad this season.

Just as Spurs muscled themselves into the top three, their injury-hit side has slumped into a keenly-fought race for the top four, where a quartet of contenders simply do not go into the two remaining places.

Fatigue has been talked about a lot as a factor but Christian Eriksen and Kieran Trippier have recently both moved to dispel that as an explanation.

On the subject of fatigue, speaking to the Daily Mirror, Eriksen said: “It’s nonsense. You get used to playing so much. I’ve played many games for a few seasons in a row. It feels unnatural when you don’t play. The legs are doing well.”

Meanwhile, Trippier has endured a nightmare season following his World Cup exploits and told the Telegraph: “People can say the World Cup is the reason but, for me, I don’t think it was. It’s just one of those things, you pick up injuries.”

In truth, fatigue would be a reasonable explanation for Spurs’ struggles, which have brought about some of the injuries that have derailed the campaign at times.

But seeing as the players themselves don’t seem to accept that as an excuse, they have no excuse for the recent slump that has taken hold.
