Erik Lamela to disappoint once again at Tottenham in new season

Tottenham signed Erik Lamela back in 2013 and they paid £30million (Guardian) for him, which was a club record at the time.

The Argentine winger has had some memorable moment in a Spurs shirt, perhaps the best being a stunning ‘rabona’ wonder striker from outside the box against Asteras in the Europa League.

He’s played 187 games for the North London club, scoring 29 goals and supplying 41 assists.

But ultimately the 27-year-old has never full lived up to expectation and his poor record of injuries has certainly not helped.

The wide man has struggled to nail down a spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s XI in recent campaigns and hasn’t scored the amount of goals he should have.

Lamela managed six goals in 33 games across all competitions last season, where he had to spent a good amount of time on the bench.

He’s seen the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Heung-Min Son and Lucas More become far more creative players for Spurs than him.

Lamela has a chance in pre-season to try force his way into the best XI, but it looks like he will come short once again and have to put up with being an option off the bench.

He did score with a simple tap in from close-range in a friendly win against Juventus, but isn’t quite on the level of some of his teammates and his best form only comes in small patches.
