Erik Lamela has responded to Tottenham Hotspur icon Graham Roberts on Twitter after the Argentine winger produced a strong challenge on Burnley winger Dwight McNeil – during Monday night’s 1-0 win over Sean Dyche’s side.
Spurs earned all three points and climbed to fifth place in the Premier League – just two points behind leaders Everton – after Son Heung-min and Harry Kane combined once again this season, from a Lamela corner.
Lamela, 28, entered the fray just before the hour mark and played an integral part in securing the win. But with moments left, he flew into a challenge on Burnley winger Dwight McNeil that left the talented Clarets ace feeling rather worse for wear.
Replays showed the Argentina international jumping into the tackle with his studs somewhat showing, but action was not taken against the £30million (Telegraph) Tottenham star. Roberts and Ryan Mason gave their opinion, and Lamela responded.

TBR’s view – Should Lamela have been punished?
Lamela got the ball and his momentum takes him through McNeil. Yes, his studs are showing, but it is not one of those studs-up tackles that sees a player go front-on into another with his studs planted on an opponent’s knee.
It is a sore one for McNeil, but it is a fair, full-blooded tackle. If tackles such as this begin to be punished, then there will be red cards every single match. Perhaps it is a sign of the times, though, that this is being talked about.
