Eric Garcia makes decision on Barcelona future amid Arsenal interest
Mikel Arteta knows Garcia from his time at Manchester City. The Spaniard was already at the Etihad Stadium when the 22-year-old arrived in 2017.
Sport suggests that Arsenal are one of the Premier League sides now very interested in signing Garcia. And based on his current situation in Xavi’s squad, you could understand if the youngster was open to the idea of moving on.
Eric Garcia has no intention of joining Arsenal in transfer window
Garcia has now made 50 appearances for Barca in all competitions. However, he has not featured in any of their last four games in La Liga. And he has completed 90 minutes in the league just twice since the end of August.
That may have given Arsenal some hope. But it would appear that they are heading for disappointment.
According to Sport, nothing could be further from Garcia’s mind than leaving Camp Nou in this window. That is despite interest from several teams in England.
If Arteta really is keen to bring Garcia to the Emirates, it will be a disappointment. However, it is surely not a significant setback for Arsenal.
Their strength in depth at centre-back is excellent. William Saliba and Gabriel have formed such a good partnership that it is remarkable to think that they had not played together before this season.
Meanwhile, the likes of Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu can also play there.
Garcia’s ability to play on the left of the centre-back pairing may have made him a beneficial addition. They do probably lack someone who can naturally fill in should anything happen to Gabriel.
Xavi has claimed that Garcia is an ‘extraordinary‘ talent. So it should come as no surprise that no move is on the cards in this transfer window.
