Eric Dier shares what he found very annoying in Tottenham win

Eric Dier has told Tottenham Hotspur’s media team that he was very frustrated not to get onto the scoresheet during their 5-0 win over Everton following a glorious chance in the second-half.

Spurs have continued their bizarre run of form by following their FA Cup loss with the stunning victory over the Toffees. They now go into this weekend looking for their first back-to-back wins since the turn of the year.

Everton were woeful at the back. But Tottenham were also absolutely lethal in front of goal. Well, they largely were.

Harry Kane scored twice, while Son Heung-min and Sergio Reguilon also got on the scoresheet. Michael Keane set Tottenham on their way with a thunderous own goal.

But it could have been even more comfortable had Dier not missed a brilliant opportunity during the second-half.

Dier had virtually a free header on the edge of the six-yard box after Kane lifted the ball back into the danger zone. However, he was unable to get his head over the ball and sent his effort towards the top of the crossbar.

And that appeared to put a dampener on a fantastic night for Tottenham as far as Dier was concerned. The centre-back joked that he was extremely disappointed not to get a goal himself.

“I don’t want to talk you through it! People keep on bringing it up,” he told Tottenham Hotspur’s media team.

“I’ve got to score, it’s disappointing. Harry just put it a bit too high!

“It’s something a really want to improve, I want to get more goals, it’s something I’m very frustrated with and it’s very annoying not to get that one.”

Dier making key contribution to Tottenham – even if he’s not scoring goals

Dier is still awaiting his first goal of the season for Tottenham. So you can understand why he may be frustrated about his miss in the victory over Everton.

However, he can still reflect on some major positives. Since his return from injury, Spurs have kept two clean sheets in four. They have conceded three, with two of those coming against Manchester City.

The understanding he is building with Cristian Romero is quite something. And that is going to be hugely important for Tottenham as they look to take the race for the top-four down to the wire.
