Eric Dier has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that the more players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Spurs have, the better as he lauded the start the Dane has made to life in North London.

Hojbjerg goes into the New Year having established himself as one of the most important players in Jose Mourinho’s side.

He has been outstanding since his £15 million move (fee reported by Sky Sports). And he is arguably one of the players Mourinho would find most difficult to replace if he was unavailable at any stage.

And Dier outlined just how impressed he has been by the former Southampton man since his arrival in the summer.

“He’s been a fantastic addition on and off the pitch,” he told Tottenham’s official website. “Off the pitch? I like people who set the standard by the way they act. Pierre is very professional, looks after himself very well, works very hard every day. The more players like that, the better.”

It is remarkable to think back and remember that Hojbjerg endured a nightmare debut for Tottenham. He was incredibly poor in the 1-0 defeat to Everton. But he has responded in outstanding fashion.

Hojbjerg – who earns around £102,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is now one of the first names on the team sheet. And given that he is just 25, there seems to be little reason why he cannot develop further and become even more influential.

He may not attract the same number of headlines as the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. But there is no question that few players have been more impressive for Tottenham so far this season.
