Eric Dier has suggested that Joe Hart has been fantastic since arriving at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and insisted that the goalkeeper is going to be great for Spurs, in comments reported by Football London.
Hart was a surprise addition to Tottenham’s ranks in the summer. The former England international had left Burnley earlier in the year after failing to make a single Premier League appearance in his final season with the Clarets.
Spurs did let Michel Vorm leave. However, Paulo Gazzaniga has proved to be a decent understudy for Hugo Lloris during his time in North London.
So some may have been a little taken aback by Jose Mourinho’s decision to bring Hart in. But Dier insisted that the 33-year-old has already brought a lot to the side.
“He’s been fantastic. He’s someone I knew beforehand but the energy he brings into the building and his work ethic is great,” he said, as reported by Football London.
“He’s won big trophies and played big games but just now he was out there after training, saving ten penalties from people and five free-kicks from others.
“He’s still willing to work so hard and make those sacrifices. I’m sure he’s going to be great for us. He did save one penalty from me….from four.”
In fairness, it would be difficult to criticise Tottenham’s move to sign Hart. He has previously been one of the Premier League’s best. And as Dier notes, he has won a number of honours.
His spell at Burnley also offered hints that he may have put his previous issues with form behind him. And he certainly has the ability to provide good cover for Lloris.
And with Dier suggesting that he has been an extremely positive influence around the club, it becomes even clearer as to why Tottenham thought bringing him in may be a good piece of business.
