Tottenham’s Eric Dier raved about his teammate Dele Alli after the team’s comfortable win over Reading on Friday in a pre-season friendly and claimed he’s “excited” to see what he does moving forward.

Jose Mourinho’s continued their pre-season build-up against Championship opposition and secured a 4-1 victory with many individuals impressing in the attacking positions.

Alli got himself on the scoresheet with a magnificent chipped goal and the spotlight appears to be on him ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Despite scoring nine goals and supplying six assists last season, overall the attacking midfielder saw his standards dip from the man who set the Premier League alight when he first burst onto the scene.

The 24-year-old has been omitted from the latest England squad by international manager and he’s got to try get himself back to his very best.

Dier recognises that Alli may have a point to prove on an individual level, but it appears he’s got faith in him to reignite his form.

“He’s got me excited with the way he played today. I really enjoyed seeing the way he played, his energy, his work-rate in and out of possession was fantastic, great goal as well,” Dier said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

“He’s got a lot to prove and I’m excited. It excites me to see that kind of Dele, he has fantastic quality and if he plays like he did today he will be in a very good place.”

Alli set the standard so high for himself when he arrived at Spurs from MK Dons that he’s almost a victim of his own success and a dip in form was always going to be natural, so those writing him off could be proved very wrong in the next few months.

The creative playmaker has the chance to click the restart button in this new season and there will be chances for him in Mourinho’s team to do what he does best in terms late runs from midfield into the final third.

He’s been around a similar squad of players for several years and they clearly are behind him, so he’s one to watch that could go under the radar going into the new campaign.
