Enzo Crivelli not a major transfer miss from Aston Villa

Aston Villa were looking to bring in a new striker last January and a year ago a French-based target appeared on their radar.

As reported by L’Equipe, the Championship side were looking to sign the French under-21 attacker from Angers on loan.

The frontman had struggled for form at the club and after just six months appeared to be on the move.

In the end, he remained in his homeland. Aston Villa missed out, with Crivelli instead joining Caen on loan until the end of the season.

So did they miss out?

Not particularly.

Crivelli may have impressed enough to earn a permanent deal to the club, costing around €3 million (£2.6 million), but has hardly set the world alight. He is popular with the fanbase. A hard-working attacker, but hardly prolific.

In his 33 games for his new club, he has managed just six goals and that sort of form would not have been enough to help Aston Villa to their promotion aim.

There are plenty of what-ifs from Aston Villa last term. Crivelli does not look like one of them.
