‘Enormous ability’… Gilberto Silva says Arsenal already have the next Martin Odegaard in their squad

Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has compared Fabio Vieira to Gunners captain Martin Odegaard.

The North Londoners take on Porto in the Champions League tomorrow night. It will be a special game for everyone, especially Vieira, who spent over a decade at the Estádio do Dragão before joining Arsenal in 2022.

Arsenal signed Fabio Vieira in a £34.2 million deal before the start of last season (BBC).

The versatile midfielder checks a lot of boxes for the Gunners. He can play anywhere in attack and in two of the three midfield positions, he’s good on the ball, has great vision and is capable of scoring goals and providing assists on a regular basis.

However, Vieira has been out of action since November after undergoing surgery on his groin. It has been a long road back, but he was spotted in training today and is expected to be in the squad for the game against Porto tomorrow.

Arsenal Invincible Gilberto Silva is a big fan of Vieira. He has now claimed that the midfielder has ‘enormous ability’ and has compared him to club captain Martin Odegaard.

He told O Jogo, as translated by SportWitness: “He’s a great player, but in terms of his style and the coach’s vision, he’s very close to Odegaard.

“You have good ideas and dynamics, but he has to recognise that and the quality he has. I think he’ll be utilised more, he’s got enormous ability, he just needs to get loose.”

Fabio Vieira could still succeed at Arsenal

There are a few people who have written off Fabio Vieira after the midfielder failed to set the league on fire in his first 18 months at the club.

However, we truly believe Vieira could become a star for Arsenal.

The 23-year-old has almost everything in his game. He has struggled physically, but once he gets that part right, he can have a real impact for Arsenal in whichever position he plays. Mikel Arteta even admitted that he’s impressed by Vieira in training every day.

It will be an emotional return for Vieira if he does make the squad against Porto tomorrow. Arsenal fans will be hoping to see him back on the pitch, at least for a few minutes.
