England fans tear into Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford

Everton’s Jordan Pickford played in a dramatic 5-3 win against Kosovo on Tuesday night – and some England fans on Twitter ripped into him for his performance.

England beat Kosovo in an eight-goal thriller at St Mary’s in a European Championship group stage qualifier.

Gareth Southgate’s team have now won all four group matches and once again flexed their muscles going forward, as a forward line of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane impressed.

After conceding in the opening minute, the Three Lions responded with five unanswered goals before half-time.

But England did lose the second-half by a 2-0 scoreline and there is certainly defensive improvements to be made ahead of next summer’s European Championship.

Everton’s Michael Keane gifted Kosovo their early opening goal with a mistimed pass, while Manchester United’s Harry Maguire conceded a penalty for their third goal.

A selection of England supporters on social media were not pleased with the performance of number one Pickford in net.

He saw the opening goal lifted over him with a decent finish, while he was left with no chance with the second strike that was curled into the top corner.

Everton’s shot-stopper did get a hand to the penalty and may have felt he should have kept it out, but it seems a tad harsh to criticise for that.

It was certainly a horrid night for the backline that Southgate must address, but it was the defenders in front of the goalkeeper who should take on more of the blame.
