Tottenham defender Kyle Walker-Peters played 90 minutes for England’s Under-21s side on Tuesday night – and he received some harsh criticism on Twitter for his performance.
Many England fans slammed the 21-year-old right-back, as the Young Lions were beaten 2-1 at home by Germany in a friendly.
Aidy Boothroyd’s side saw their 18-game unbeaten streak come to an end and it was a night to forget for Walker-Peters.
The Spurs full-back was caught out of position for Mahmoud Dahoud’s 27th-minute opening goal, before Dominic Solanke drew England level before half-time.
Walker-Peters was then unfortunate to be involved in a head injury in the 91st minute from a corner, but play continued and Felix Uduokhai smashed in a late winner for Germany.
Walker-Peters has made just eight senior appearances for Spurs so far this season, with senior teammates Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier ahead of him.
The attack-minded right-back got a chance for some action during the international break, but was put to the test defensively against Germany.
He’s still a rising talent that is bound to make some mistakes, but he was on the end of some harsh stick midweek for his performance from football supporters.
Here are some comments from England fans on Walker-Peters:
This Walker-Peters lad from Spurs: literally every time I’ve seen him play, he’s made an error costing a goal.

Walker Peters is poor. Miles off Aurier and Trippier , who most also say aren’t good enough. #COYS

Whenever I’ve seen Walker-Peters he has been lightweight and off the pace #EngGer

Dreadful from Walker-Peters as England U21s concede a goal for injury-time defeat. The ball is bouncing around the box and he gets caught in the face by an arm and goes down. Nothing’s given (rightly) but he lies on the edge of the 6yd box instead of defending it. Poor. #ENGGER

Walker Peters ain’t even got a lump on his head, no blood, nothing, that’s so soft going down when the German’s are attacking like that, eh up he’s ok and running around now 😬 #ENGGER

U21s were poor tonight. Germany a quality team both defensively and offensively. England’s right side was weak defensive Walker peters caught 2 on 1 to many times. Over run in midfield. Sessegnon didn’t produce and Barnes too predictable IMO #u21 #england
