Tyrone Mings earned his second England cap in the 4-0 win over Kosovo last night.
After making his debut in difficult circumstances against Bulgaria last month, Mings was dropped as England faced Montenegro at Wembley last Thursday. John Stones, who has barely played since recovering from injury, was recalled instead.
England’s 7-0 win over Montenegro was enough to earn qualification for the European Championships in 2020. Gareth Southgate rotated his options for the Sunday evening game against Kosovo with Mings returning to the line-up.
Mings marks return with clean sheet
The Aston Villa star played at centre-half alongside Harry Maguire in Kosovo. Southgate appears to like the left-footed option that Mings provides, as well as his ball-carrying skills. Having played at left-back in the past, Mings is not afraid to dribble out from the back and pick his passes.
Despite England winning comfortably and keeping a clean sheet, there were some fans who took to Twitter to criticise Mings. England conceded three against Kosovo at Wembley but Mings was able to shore things up at the back. He was still blasted by certain fans.
Here are some tweets about his performance.
A lot of Villa fans I speak to on here rave about how good Tyrone Mings is.
I know international football is different to club football but I have to say he looks pretty average to me.
Looks a bit out of his depth.#KOSENG

Tyrone Mings might just be one of the most over rated players in the Premier League 🤷🏽♂️

Tyrone Mings getting bullied by the 114th ranked team in the world? Shock!

Tyrone Mings doesn’t convince one bit does he?
Tomori being robbed of caps, lets be honest. Should be front runner for YPOTY and getting overlooked for mediocrity.
