Harry Winks produced an excellent display in the middle of the park as England cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Ireland at Wembley on Thursday night – and England supporters have applauded the Tottenham star.
Winks, 24, earned his eighth England cap as England looked to end a 35-year long record in which they have failed to beat Ireland. The Spurs midfielder partnered Mason Mount in central midfield in an attacking 3-4-3 system.
Gareth Southgate included the likes of Nick Pope in goal, Bukayo Saka and Reece James at full-back and Jack Grealish on the left of a front three, also including Jadon Sancho and Dom Calvert-Lewin.

The latter two got their names on the score sheet, but only after captain Harry Maguire had powered a header home in the first half. He got above Shane Duffy to score, after an excellent cross from Winks.
Sancho made it two towards the end of the first half, receiving the ball from Grealish and cutting inside – before finishing with aplomb into the far corner. Calvert-Lewin netted his second England goal from the penalty spot.
Many England fans responded to Winks’ performance in the 3-0 win, with the majority applauding the £40million-rated (Sun) Spurs star for his efforts in the middle of the park – which saw him remain on the field for 90 minutes.
