Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe has been deemed “exceptional” by England boss Gareth Southgate.

The 21-year-old Gunners star has enjoyed a remarkable international break which culminated in his first Three Lions caps and goal.

Smith Rowe was initially set to play for the England Under-21s in November.

However, Southgate called him up to the seniors after Marcus Rashford and James Ward-Prowse withdrew.

Smith Rowe made his England bow off the bench in the World Cup qualifying win over Albania on Friday.

And on Monday, Southgate handed the Arsenal gem his first start for the Three Lions, in the trip to San Marino.

Smith Rowe easily picked spaces in the opposition defence, made some great runs and combined well with fellow Gunner Bukayo Saka.

He got himself on the scoresheet in the 57th minute, rolling home after Tammy Abraham flicked Saka’s cross into his path.

Smith Rowe also set up Harry Kane’s second earlier on in the game, combining well with Kalvin Phillips to cross home for the Spurs man.

Southgate, speaking to ITV after the 10-0 win, said: “I thought Emile has given a good account all week.

“His tight control is exceptional and he has to continue what he is doing.”

Arsenal are next in action on Saturday when they face Liverpool at Anfield.
