Emre Mor’s troubled history suggests Leeds United should ignore potential transfer move

Turkish international Emre Mor reportedly wants to make a move to Leeds United this month, according to reports.

It is reported by Sporx that the Celta Vigo-owned star ‘wants to be transferred’ to Leeds. However, Leeds are said to be ‘cautious’ about a deal considering his poor form.

The YEP reported last week that Leeds are looking at a striker playing in Europe who has scored goals at international level. It could easily be construed that Mor is that player, considering his one goal in 15 caps for Turkey.

Of course, Mor was once a wonderkid who had some of the world’s biggest teams chasing his signature.

The player himself even spoke of one day playing for Real Madrid and Barcelona. He told Hurriyet ESPN in 2017 of his desire to play for one of the Spanish giants.

“I want to play for Real Madrid, to be a star. My biggest dream is to one day wear the Real Madrid jersey, even if it is a bit too early for it.

“I know myself and I think I could play for Barcelona, too. When? I do not know yet.”

It came after he sprung to prominence at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland and with the Turkish national team. Dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi’ he ended up at Borussia Dortmund, where things started going wrong.

He fell out with coach Thomas Tuchel, as reported by BILD, and failed to settle in Germany. After one season, he was sold to Celta Vigo, where he has also struggled.

As reported by AS in December 2017, he was told he needed to change by his boss Juan Carlos Unzue. Tipsbladet reported 12 months ago that Mor had been banished from training by Celta for a month, after various acts of indiscipline.

In fact, even as far back as 2015, Mor was released by Danish side Lyngby. As reported by Ekstra Bladet, Mor had ‘openly challenged’ the coaching staff at the club and ‘created unrest’ at the club.

Mor is an extremely talented player but in Leeds United’s tight-knit squad it is hard to see how such a seemingly problematic character could fit in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.

Leeds fans might want to hope that the links with Mor prove to be unfounded.
