Arsenal will be looking to win the Premier League this season after running Manchester City close for two years running.

The Gunners are looking to win their first league title in 21 years, and in order to do that, the north London club will have to step up a gear.

Arsenal’s key players will have to step up, and according to Emmanuel Petit, speaking on the Planet Premier League Podcast, Arsenal do have a player who will hit a new level this season.

Indeed, according to Petit, Riccardo Calafiori is going to be a breakout star in the Premier League this season.

Riccardo Calafiori will explode this season

Petit spoke about the £40m man, claiming that he, alongside Kaoru Mitoma, will be the breakout star of the Premier League this season.

“Manu do you have a breakout star for this year?” Petit was asked.

“Yeah, Calafiori, and I have another one, Mitoma from Brighton,” Petit said.

Riccardo Calafiori could be the difference maker

Riccardo Calafiori is Arsenal’s only signing of the summer, and he could be the difference maker in this team this season.

The Italian is perfect for Mikel Arteta’s system. He’s capable of playing in multiple positions, and he’s incredible on the ball.

Calafiori could be perfect in that inverted left-back position, he’s got immense composure on the ball, while he’s also brilliant in terms of reading the game in a defensive sense.

Calafiori could be the breakout star in the Premier League this season in the same way William Saliba was a few years ago.

Arsenal’s success this season will be built from the back, and with Calafiori added to this backline, it will be almost impossible to get past the Gunners this season.

Arsenal may have made the signing of the summer with Calafiori, and Petit reckons he has a huge campaign ahead of him.
