In perhaps today’s most surprising news, Emmanuel Adebayor has now claimed he’s been advising one Aston Villa player this season.

Adebayor was a guest on talkSPORT this morning and was quite complimentary about Villa’s strong form this season.

And he says he had been following the team closely because of his friendship with Bertrand Traore.

Although not often used by Unai Emery this season, Traore didn’t leave the club on loan in the summer and is sometimes included on Villa’s bench.

And when discussing his good relationship with Traore, Adebayor also had a warning for Aston Villa over the festive period.

He said: “They are having a great season because one of my boys there, Bertrand Traore, I am like his big brother.

“I always call him, and he always calls me, I always advise him. I always keep an eye on them because of him.

“They are doing quite well now in the league but remember the league is quite a tough season and it’s going to be even harder between January and February, that is when you come back from Boxing Day.

“In that time the team became so, so tired because players are tired of the festive period and playing in the week and then the weekend.

“It can be very, very hard but at the moment they are having a good season.”

I think it would be fair to say that Traore’s £17m move to Aston Villa hasn’t been the most successful.

The number nine failed to continue his excellent form that he showed for Olympique Lyon after leaving Chelsea.

And with his contract expiring in the summer, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if he did move on to another challenge.

Although, he’ll certainly be pleased if he leaves with a Premier League winners medal.

Adebayor seemed a bit sceptical of Aston Villa’s chances, but the achievement is certainly not impossible.

And one former England international has now been backing Villa to repeat the feat of Leicester City in 2016.

It would certainly live long in the memory if achieved, but Villa may need to make the most of the January transfer window in order to do so.

Although impressed by their form, Micah Richards has recently shared his concern regarding their squad
