Emilio Izaguirre has told the Glasgow Times that two players have asked the Honduran ace about a potential move to Celtic, including his cousin and previously-linked Mls speedster Alberth Elis.
Izaguirre, 34, is a free agent after a one-year spell at Honduran title-chasers FC Motagua came to an end. He remains an icon at Celtic, having clocked up 271 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions for the Scottish champions.
The Daily Record claim Houston Dynamo star Elis, 24, was the subject of a £3million bid from Celtic last summer. He has scored 33 goals and created 25 more in 97 Dynamo outings – and already has 42 Honduras caps.
Now, Izaguirre told the Times that Elis has asked about a move to Celtic this summer – while The Times claim Izaguirre’s cousin and Olimpia midfielder Alejandro Reyes is looking for a Celtic recommendation.
“Alberth is a very good friend of mine and I spoke with him about Celtic,” Izaguirre said. “He’s a very good, fast player. He’s very fast and strong and he’s good in the air. He’s played a lot of football and is good on the ball.
TBR’s view – Elis would be a sensational Celtic signing
Goals, assists, speed, skill and already a more than experienced international, Elis would be a top, top addition for Celtic this summer. In an improving league like the MLS, Elis has scored a goal every three games from out wide.
Not only that, but he also lays on an assist at an average of one every four outings. He is an exciting player that if Celtic can sign for £3million, then they really should.
