Emi Martinez has showered praise on four Aston Villa players who have starred so far in 2020/21.

The £20 million summer signing from Arsenal has been in stellar form himself at Villa Park, but has been blown away by the team’s attacking quartet of Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley, Ollie Watkins and Trezeguet.

Villa are currently the joint-third highest scoring team in the Premier League, behind Chelsea and Tottenham, equal with Leicester and Liverpool.

Dean Smith’s side have certainly been much improved in 2020/21, and it’s clear the new signings have had a great impact.

And Martinez believes the quality up top puts Villa in a position to do great things.

He said (Express & Star): “We have so much talent and we want to give them a structure at the back.

“We need to give them clean sheets and something behind them because they are so good going forward.

“But it’s the way they defend as well, the way they press, the commitment from Jack (Grealish), Ross (Barkley) Ollie (Watkins) and Trez (Trezeguet). It’s unreal. When we see the front four pressing the way they do it gives us confidence and we give them confidence too.”

Grealish has been the star of the show, while Barkely and Watkins have been amazing signings. And £8.75 million star Trezeguet (BBC Sport) has arguably been something of an unsung hero so far with his relentless energy.

TBR’s View – Villa’s balance is refreshing and exciting

He’s right to point out the fact that they aren’t just quality players on the ball.

Their work out of possession is also really important and is something that will stifle opponents going forwards.

A great season is in store if Villa can continue in this fashion, especially with the brilliant Martinez keeping things tight at the back.
