Emi Martinez has posted on Instagram after keeping a clean sheet against Arsenal for Aston Villa in his first match back at The Emirates since leaving The Gunners for Villa – and Jack Grealish has responded to his post.
Martinez, 28, has starred since leaving Arsenal in the summer to join Villa. The Argentine goalkeeper enjoyed his best season at Arsenal prior to his move to the Emirates – with some calling for the stopper to be kept over Bernd Leno.
But he was sold to Villa and in his seven league games, he has been excellent. He kept his fifth clean sheet of the season as Villa travelled to north London, after suffering two losses to Southampton and Leeds United.
The former Reading, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday loanee was hardly troubled throughout the match, though, as Villa tactically outclassed Arsenal. Martinez posted on Instagram after returning to the Emirates for the first time.
A goal from Trezeguet and a brace from Ollie Watkins secured all three points for Martinez’s Villa, who have climbed to a lofty sixth place despite their 17th-placed finish last term. Arsenal, meanwhile, have slipped into the bottom half of the table.
Plenty of praise came in for Martinez and the Aston Villa defence, which John Terry has seemingly got playing well. Villa skipper Grealish was full of admiration for his goalkeeper, labelling the stopper as “brilliant”.
