Emi Martinez and Reiss Nelson react on Instagram as Arsenal confirm new deal

Granit Xhaka has officially extended his stay with Arsenal. He will now stay with the Gunners until 2024 and ends a summer of speculation linking him with a move. Following the Switzerland star putting pen-to-paper, Emi Martinez and Reiss Nelson have reacted on Instagram.

Xhaka has been with Arsenal since 2016. He checked in just prior to Euro 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach, costing the Gunners £35 million.

The 28-year-old was linked with a move to Roma throughout the summer months. Jose Mourinho was desperate to take him to Serie A, although they couldn’t meet Arsenal’s demands.

That has seen Mikel Arteta call upon Xhaka. A pre-season injury to Thomas Partey helped his case for a reprieve and he’s started both of Arsenal’s Premier League games this season.

Xhaka has worn the armband in both games he’s played. He had previously lost the role of captain following a public spat with the supporters when Unai Emery was in charge.

Now, he’s set to stay at the Emirates Stadium and he took to Instagram yesterday to speak of his pride over signing a new deal.

What have Emi Martinez and Reiss Nelson said about Arsenal star Xhaka?

Martinez was snapped up by Aston Villa at the end of the 2019/20 campaign. Despite helping Arsenal lift the FA Cup, Arteta allowed him to leave and join the Villans for £20 million.

The fact that Arsenal have forked out for Aaron Ramsdale this summer suggests that what a mistake. Fans still worship him and they’d have loved to see him stay at Arsenal.

He wrote a simple congratulatory message to Arsenal’s skipper. It was summed up with just two words and a couple of emojis.

Likewise, Nelson did the same. The Arsenal winger has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer and must look at Martinez as what can be achieved by making the decision to move on.
