Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Ian Wright were both buzzing on Instagram after hearing the news about Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli’s Brazil call-up.

Martinelli was named as part of Brazil’s 26-man squad yesterday for this month’s World Cup in Qatar.

The £6 million man has only earned three caps for Tite’s side but his brilliant form this season has earned him a place in the squad.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been lethal going forward this season, with Martinelli forming part of a dynamic front-three with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.

The 21-year-old will be joined by his teammate Jesus in the squad and the news has left Wright and Martinez buzzing.

Martinez and Wright buzzing about Martinelli

Martinelli took to Instagram yesterday to share his pride at being selected for the tournament.

He wrote: “Never give up on your dreams. A proud moment for me and my family as I get the chance to represent my country in a World Cup. Qatar 2022!!”

Wright and his former teammate Martinez both replied to the post with heart-emojis.

Martinez left two emojis underneath the post, while Wright was more generous by posting six.

The Villa keeper trained alongside Martinelli at Arsenal for just over a year, before switching north London for the Midlands.

It’s a massive achievement for the Gunners youngster to make the squad, especially as he only made his debut back in March.

His breathtaking displays this season have clearly earned him a place on the plane to Qatar and he will be hoping to get his chance to impress on the world’s biggest stage.

Tite has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal, with the likes of Neymar, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Antony and Richarlison in the squad.

But Martinelli represents something of a wildcard for Brazil and he could announce himself to the world over the next month.
