Norwich City are suddenly looking like real promotion contenders. A fantastic run of form saw them top the table at the weekend, before Leeds United took back the mantle with a 2-1 win over Wigan.
One of the key reasons for their success has been the emerging talent of Emiliano Buendia. Norwich snapped up the Argentine attacker in the summer from Getafe for a reported £1.5 million fee (Eastern Daily Press). Initially, he struggled to make an impact at Carrow Road. When Leeds dealt out a 3-0 humbling in Norfolk, he watched from the bench.
Since that game, he has started all but one game for the club and Norwich’s form since has been impeccable.
Buendia has bagged seven assists from 15 games this season and has scored in his last two games. That form will no doubt have Leeds on alert regarding their promotion rivals.
The fact is, he might have been a Leeds player.
In the summer of 2017, the Daily Star suggested Thomas Christiansen wanted the player at Elland Road. In the end, he headed to Cultural Leonesa. The Spanish club has massive links to Leeds through their director and Aspire Academy director general Ivan Bravo.
He went on to have an excellent season with the club. He bagged seven goals and 11 assists, but Cultural still suffered relegation with Leeds United loanee Yosuke Ideguchi part of the squad.
Now, Buendia is looking like leading Norwich to a promotion tussle with the West Yorkshire side as their very own Samuel Saiz type.
Leeds will no doubt hope they do not live to regret completing what looked a simple deal to pull off.
