Emery hopes clearout will allow him to land four players to refresh Arsenal squad this summer – report

Unai Emery is hoping that the departure of nine Arsenal players this summer can be the catalyst for a host of new arrivals, according to the Daily Mirror.

Petr Cech’s retirement and Aaron Ramsey’s move to Juventus are two confirmed departures which should create funds on the wagebill, although will not bring in any transfer revenue.

Two other big earners set for the chop are reportedly Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The former reportedly earns £350,000 a week, while the latter is on a substantial £180,000 weekly wage.

Emery also apparently hopes to make money on Mohamed Elneny, Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi, while Danny Welbeck will be released and Denis Suarez will be free to return to Barcelona when his loan deal expires.

Meanwhile, Celtic’s Kieran Tierney and Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella are reportedly on Emery’s radar as he looks for four new arrivals, funded by the planned substantial departures.

It’s understandable that Emery didn’t want to rip up the script too much ahead of his first season, and the World Cup before the season didn’t help with transfer business.

But now he has had a full season to assess his charges, he can embark on the overhaul Arsenal needed under Arsene Wenger.

While the Spaniard appears to be still largely under the same financial burdens as Wenger was, he looks to be taking a more proactive stance to overhauling his squad.
