Emery could unleash Aston Villa talent with 'a bit of everything in his game' v Manchester United, fans should be buzzing - TBR View

New Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has got off to the perfect start at B6.

The Villans appointed the Spaniard as their new head coach in October after sacking Steven Gerrard.

And, in his first match in charge of Villa, he steered the side to a 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Villa Park.

Emery has won four Europa League titles and took Villarreal to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

And in his only full season at Arsenal, he won 70 points, still the club’s best tally since 2016-17.

Against the Red Devils, the 51-year-old also brought Morgan Sanson back to the fold.

The new Villans boss handed the midfielder his first appearance of the season at the weekend.

Sanson replaced Leander Dendoncker in stoppage time in the 3-1 win over Erik ten Hag’s side.

As the 28-year-old entered the pitch, the Villa supporters gave him a raucous welcome back.

It was his first appearance in seven months for Villa, having been frozen out by previous manager Steven Gerrard.

Sanson made just three Premier League starts under the former boss.

Ahead of Villa’s Carabao Cup meeting with United, Emery hinted that he’d unleash the Frenchman once again.

“He’s done very well in the days that we have been in the training ground,” the Birmingham Mail quotes him as saying.

“I knew him when he was playing in Marseille when I was in Paris. I think he’s a good player.

“He was injured and out of matches. I think he can help us.

“Against United, for example, in the last minute, he kept the position he usually plays and his skills were good to help us.”

‘He’s a great technician”

Sanson is a talented footballer who former manager Dean Smith described as a player with a “big game mentality”.

“He’s a great technician and has great tactical awareness,” Smith told the Express & Star back in 2021.

“He can play in a number of positions, can set up goals and can score goals.

“He has a bit of everything in his game so we’re really pleased with the acquisition.”

And ahead of another big game against Man United, there’s a good chance that the “big game mentality” player could take to the pitch again.
