Emery can help Nkunku progress at Arsenal after bringing him through at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain have told Arsenal that they will have to pay 20 million euros (£17.2m) to land 21-year-old Christopher Nkunku this summer, according to the Evening Standard.

They claim that PSG are willing to listen to offers for the starlet, but not if they don’t match their – fairly reasonable – asking price, despite his contract expiring next summer.

Unai Emery is apparently a huge fan of the midfielder; he wanted to sign him in January but was knocked back and also brought him through the ranks while he was in charge of PSG.

Nkunku can play centrally or out wide – bringing his pace and athleticism to both roles – which would be handy for a Gunners side who need strengthening across the engine room.

It’s important that Emery gets the chance this summer to put his stamp on this Arsenal squad made up largely of players Arsene Wenger signed and allowed to stagnate.

And the arrival of a youngster with plenty of room to grow, that Emery already knows well, at a fairly reasonable price is exactly the kind of transfer Arsenal should be targeting.

While PSG will always be bringing in bigger names to usurp Nkunku, Arsenal will let him develop with plenty of opportunities for gametime under a manager who clearly has a huge amount of faith in him.
