Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has expressed his delight at seeing Richarlison feeling good and playing well once again.

The Spurs full-back said in the club’s pre-Everton programme, as per the club website, that his fellow Brazilian is “a top player at the top level”.

Emerson also said he’s very happy for Richarlison, who was struggling due to a groin injury but is now playing with confidence and scoring once again.

The Tottenham forward has turned a corner following surgery on a long-term pelvic injury last month.

Since returning to action and getting back up to speed, Richarlison has looked much better, and scored three times in his last two games.

His efforts have helped Spurs back to winning ways after their sudden downturn in form in wake of a continuing spate of injuries and suspensions.

Speaking in the matchday programme for the 3pm meeting with Everton, Emerson admits he’s delighted to see Richarlison back on the scoresheet and playing with a smile on his face again.

“Richy is a top player at the top level. I’ve known him from before with the national team and remember him at Everton, he has always scored goals and always fights for the win in every game,” said Emerson.

“I’m very happy for him because he was finding it difficult with his injury, playing in pain, but now his confidence is back, he’s scoring goals and I hope he continues to do this for us.”

Great to see Tottenham star Richarlison playing with a smile on his face again

It’s so good to see Richarlison back to his best. After all the criticism he received, it just goes to show that you don’t always know what’s going on with a player behind the scenes.

After all the whinging from some quarters about Richarlison not being a good player or having become bad or whatever, it turns out that he was playing in pain due to the injury. After surgery, lo and behold, he’s now looking back to his best.

Richarlison has always been a quality player. His career trajectory is proof of this. Going from Brazil to the Premier League and also playing and scoring for the Selecao at the 2022 World Cup – that’s not the sign of a bad player.
