Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal gave a great account of himself in Spurs’ Premier League win over Everton on Saturday.

The 24-year-old came in at left-back for Tottenham in wake of Destiny Udogie‘s suspension for picking up five yellow cards.

Even though Emerson was playing on his weak side, he player well and pretty much ran himself into the ground for the cause.

The Brazilian was defensively solid for the most part and a threat in attack, showing willingness to use the ball and surge up and down his flank.

For instance, he set up an early chance for Brennan Johnson with a low ball into the box.

As per Squawka, Emerson clocked up some impressive statistics in the 2-1 win over Sean Dyche’s side.

This includes a tally of eight interceptions, which no Spurs player has managed in the Premier League in eight years.

Emerson also won the most duels (13), won possession back the most times (8), and won the most fouls (6) in Spurs’ win over the Toffees.

Meanwhile, Whoscored.com provided additional statistics, which included 88 touches of the ball, 49 passes with 91.8% accuracy, five tackles, four clearances and one key pass.

Emerson may have received criticism in the past, but displays like the one he delivered against Everton shows that he’s an important member of the Tottenham squad.

Tottenham Hotspur scrape past spirited Everton

Spurs made it three wins in a row on Saturday, showing they’ve well and truly turned a corner after their recent blip.

The resurgent Richarlison made it four goals from his last three matches with a ninth-minute opener against his former club.

Son Heung-min then doubled Tottenham’s lead in the 18th minute, firing in the rebound after Jordan Pickford parried Brennan Johnson’s shot back into danger.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin saw an effort ruled out by VAR for a foul on Emerson Royal and, even though Andre Gomes halved the deficit late on, Spurs held on for all three points.
