Leeds United were linked with a £7million move for Wolfsburg midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj in the summer transfer window, with the youngster struggling for game time – and now they could finally land the German in January.
German newspaper Bild has claimed 22-year-old Rexhbecaj will be allowed to leave the club next month as he struggles for game time this season. The Wolfsburg academy star has managed just two appearances, starting once in the Europa League.
It is believed that Hannover 96 and Liverpool’s Champions League opponents KRC Genk are interested in signing Rexhbecaj, who has 32 senior appearances to his name at Wolfsburg. But the latest report might put Leeds and Norwich on red alert.
That is because Bild claimed in the summer that both Marcelo Biela’s side and the Canaries wanted to sign the midfielder, and were willing to part with £7million to lure the midfielder to England. He has a contract at Wolfsburg until the summer of 2023.

TBR’s view – Rexhbecaj would be an excellent replacement for Phillips
With Rexhbecaj looking as though he will be allowed to leave Wolfsburg next month, Leeds simply have to move for the German midfielder – if Kalvin Phillips does eventually decide to leave Elland Road.
Phillips has signed a new deal at Leeds but the likelihood is that he will only remain at Elland Road beyond the summer if Leeds gain promotion to the Premier League this season – similarly with Marcelo Bielsa.
But if he does leave, Rexhbecaj would be an excellent replacement on the cheap.
