According to Foot Mercato, Bordeaux are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
The Egyptian midfielder certainly has no future at the Emirates Stadium. Unai Emery has already stated that the club are open to selling the 27-year-old.
For the sake of his own career, Elneny needs to move on. He has barely featured for the Gunners since the Spanish coach arrived in north London. He is yet to make an appearance so far this season, and only managed 17 outings in all competitions last season.
There is no room for the 75-cap Egypt international in Emery’s squad, so his departure this summer would suit all involved.
Given how little game time he has been getting, Elneny’s departure would not leave a big hole in the Arsenal squad. However, his exit would likely create an opportunity for one of the club’s exciting youngsters to get some game time in the League Cup and Europa League group stages.
Young prospects such as Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson and Matteo Guendouzi have flourished under Emery. Elneny’s exit could set the stage for 19-year-old Robbie Burton to make an impression on the first team himself.
The Welsh midfielder is a gifted player with plenty of potential. Emery has already been made aware of his quality. The teenager featured for Arsenal during pre-season, having been suggested to Emery by former youth team coach, and new first team coach, Freddie Ljungberg, as reported by Football.London.
Emery was impressed by Burton in pre-season. If Elneny is moved on, there could be an opportunity for Emery to take a closer look at the academy star in the context of the first team.
Having been with the north London club since the age of six, Burton’s time to shine has been a long time coming. With Elneny looking set for the exit though, it could finally be here.
