Sheffield Wednesday

Bouncing back from a play-off final defeat has to be one of the hardest things in football. Sheffield Wednesday were the victims of 1-0 defeat to Hull in last season’s main event at Wembley. However, the intent was shown in the summer that Wednesday didn’t want a repeat, and the club made the signings to show it.

Steven Fletcher, Adam Reach, David Jones, Almen Abdi, Will Buckley and most recently Callum McMaman have joined Carlos Carvahal’s squad. Many Owls fans will agree that keeping hold of Fernando Forestieri was as good as any signing, and sitting in 6th at Christmas gives them every chance to kick on in the second half, and challenge the top two.

A real key win for Sheffield Wednesday was their Boxing Day victory at St. James Park. However, it was not just a win, but a deserved one. Wednesday have a poor record against the top teams, and this will give them the belief they can get results moving forward.

What can be said about Sheffield Wednesday is that, if they were to get in the play-offs again, the group knows what it feels like to get beat, and they won’t want to experience it again. That will play to their advantage, as an added motivation. If The Owls can finish strong, and put a consistent run together, they could go all the way.
