Marcus Edwards has been hotly tipped for a number of years now but as England’s success at various youth levels has revealed the depth of talent in the Young Lions ranks, he has been somewhat left behind.
The Tottenham midfielder is current on loan with Dutch outfit Excelsior but a promising start has given way to a disappointing recent run, which culminated in him being left out of the squad entirely last weekend.
This season has seen the likes of former Manchester City ace Jadon Sancho and Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson seize their opportunities in German football as first team chances continue to decrease for their countrymen in England.
But Edwards is so far failing to follow suit, which is especially concerning on the back of his failed loan spell with Norwich City last season.

He must use the success of the likes of Nelson as inspiration; proving his worth in European football is most likely to represent his best chance of proving his quality to Mauricio Pochettino.
There are also concerns around his attitude and once those begin to grab more headlines than on-field performances, it is not usually a good sign for a young player.
But there is now a clear blueprint for Edwards to follow; it’s up to him if he wants to grab it.
