Eduardo Herrera has confirmed on Twitter that he is leaving loan side Club Necaxa after joining the Mexican side on loan from Rangers back in January – and Rangers fans have reacted to his Tweet.
Herrera, 31, joined Rangers in the summer of 2017 under Pedro Caixinha, but instantly flopped at Ibrox. He scored just two goals in 24 games for The Gers, before moving back to his home country and joining Santos Laguna last season.
He then left in January 2018, but remained in Mexico to join Necaxa – a team he played for during his youth. Herrera managed just nine goals in 39 appearances, 20 of which came from the substitutes bench.
The Mexico international posted on Twitter to inform Necaxa supporters that he would be leaving the club – last appearing as a substitute against Liverpool’s Club World Cup opponents Monterrey. It looks as though he will return to Rangers.
His Tweet is translated as: “Thank you Club Necaxa. A year where there were more joys that we could share with this faithful game. I take great memories from the players, coaching staff, management and all the people who work at the club. Thank you.”
Herrera has a contract at Rangers until the summer of 2020 but the target man has never played under Steven Gerrard. The chances are that he will either be loaned out until the summer, or be sold completely for nothing.
Rangers fans reacted to the news that Herrera has bid farewell to Necaxa – suggesting that he will return to parent club Rangers where he is still contracted until the summer. One fan Tweeted: “£1million, and you can have him in January.”
