Edu says ‘many teams’ are calling him about £75k-a-week Arsenal man, one club reportedly in pole position

Arsenal technical director Edu has spoken of his desire to ensure Lucas Torreira is happy and getting game time, admitting “many teams” have enquired about his services.

The Gunners midfielder made the temporary switch from the Emirates Stadium to Atletico Madrid in the summer, but has barely featured for the Spanish side thus far.

Torreira has made just 13 appearances in all competitions for Los Colchoneros, and only four of those have been starts.

Given the Uruguayan is barely getting a look-in at Atletico, he’s being linked with a move elsewhere – either another loan or even a permanent switch.

According to AS, Valencia are interested in Torreira’s services, with both the player and Arsenal seemingly keen on a switch from the Wanda Metropolitano to the Mestalla.

And Edu has told the same outlet that he is monitoring Torreira’s situation, stressing that the Gunners won’t hesitate to act if his player isn’t happy.

“The situation is very simple,” said the Brazilian. “Arsenal are concerned about Torreira, his happiness, that he plays and that he is well.

“We want to know about him, how he feels and later, of course, know what Atletico thinks. For us, Lucas and his happiness is what’s most important.

“If everyone is happy, we will continue like this. If Lucas is not well, we will look for a change because there are many teams that are calling me to ask about the player’s situation.”

Torreira hasn’t had the rub of the green at Arsenal, with Unai Emery previously trying – and failing – to turn him into a No. 10 and struggling to win his place back in the side after an ankle injury.

Likewise, Mikel Arteta appears to have deemed him surplus to requirements, and he hasn’t been given much game time at Atletico, so he really could do with a move elsewhere.

Valencia are said to be interested in a “pivot”, and the £75,000-a-week man is a player who could do a great job for the struggling La Liga side.

However, the Italian trio of Lazio, Fiorentina and Torino have reportedly sent proposals too, so there’s plenty for the 24-year-old to choose from if he’s not happy at Atletico.
