Arsenal Technical Director Edu Gasper remains confident in agreeing on a deal with Real Madrid for Martin Odegaard.

Football London report that the former Brazilian international is ‘convinced’ he can reach an agreement with Los Blancos for the Norwegian playmaker. Yet it is not known whether it will be a loan extension or a permanent move.

Arsenal signed Odegaard in January on a short-term loan deal. The 22-year-old made 14 starts in all competitions for the Gunners, scoring twice and assisting a further two goals.

Edu ‘won’t change’ transfer strategy

Indeed, Emi Buendia was Arsenal’s main creative target this summer. But as reported by the Guardian, the Argentine will sign for Aston Villa.

As per the Football London report, Edu ‘won’t change’ his strategy to approaching and signing new players this window.

Odegaard is highly unlikely to leave Madrid this summer, though. As reported by ABC Deportes via Madrid Zone, Carlo Ancelotti will not sign a new midfielder in the transfer window as he trusts the Scandinavian playmaker in his squad.

With Buendia and Odegaard Arsenal’s two main creative targets this summer, the club have a serious problem on their hands. And Edu’s way of approaching new signings will not help matters.

Arsenal will need to think of Odegaard alternatives

With Edu not willing to change his negotiation tactics and Madrid likely to retain Odegaard for the season, Arsenal should start to begin thinking of alternative targets to the 22-year-old.

The Gunners will find it difficult to sign Odegaard in this current climate. And with the club being so lax to allow Buendia to slip through their fingers, Arsenal should start thinking realistically and seek other creative targets.

Arsenal need to sign a playmaker this summer. And with their two prime targets off the market, the Gunners must find new options before the window opens.
